Lists of Merit Badge Counselors

Posted on Nov 24 2015 - 11:14am

When looking for a merit badge counselor, please contact the scout office directly. We have had some copies of T214 meritbadge counselors posted, but have learned that this is not an appropriate way to do this, mainly because we don't know if the merit badge counselors are up to date on their Youth Protection Training. You can either go directly to the scout office for counselors, or use the newly acquired Scout Book software that is synced with the Council.

Looking for feedback on new online software: Scout Book

Posted on Nov 24 2015 - 11:10am

A couple of months ago, Troop 214 adults should have received an email from Rodney Van Bruggen saying that a login for SCOUT BOOK was set up for you. This software syncs directly with the Council office. This is bascially an online version of the record-keeping portion of the Scout Book. You can enter in your scouts advancement (service hours, camping log, rank advancement requirements, etc) just as you would with the hard copy. You can also upload photos to enhance visualization of your work.  An advantage of the electronic is that once you or another adult leader enters in information, the advancement committee can go in and approve it electronically as well.

Fall Hiking Opportunities Along the North Country Trail

Posted on Sep 4 2015 - 10:01am

There are two great events coming up in September on the North Country Trail that might interest you. On Saturday, September 5, the NCT will be having a hike along the NCT between Colfax and Walcott, about 25 miles south of Fargo. The trail in this area has been under development for several years and is now basically finished.  Trail features include numerous bridges and puncheons (a type of boardwalk) across wet areas and through patches of cattails, including a noteworthy "mega-puncheon" that is 300 feet long.  The terrain includes native prairie plants, grasses, bushes, and trees.  Various types of birds and animals are often seen on this trail section.  This hike will be a fun way to celebrate the Labor Day weekend.  More information is available on the Red River Valley Outdoors Meetup at: http://www.meetup.com/Red-River-Valley-Outdoors/events/224657405/.  On Saturday, September 26, the Dakota Prairie Chapter will be celebrating the second annual National North Country Trail Day and National Public Lands Day by sponsoring a special hiking event.  They are looking for hikers who will each hike at least 1 mile of the Trail and in total "Hike Every Mile" across the 75 miles of the NCT between Fort Abercrombie and Lisbon. Hikers will choose the distance they want to walk that day and the Chapter will coordinate routes and transportation.  We'll all gather at the end of the hikes for a party (with food, beverages, and a band) at the Ekre Grassland Preserve southwest of Kindred.  Please join us for this adventure, and invite your family and friends to participate also.  The attached document contains information about signing up for this free event.  More information is available on the Red River Valley Outdoors Meetup at: http://www.meetup.com/Red-River-Valley-Outdoors/events/224656180/. If you have questions, please contact Tom Moberg, NCTA Dakota Prairie Chapter, TFMoberg@gmail.com, 701-271-6769.
